Mr. Saugata Bhattacharya is senior vice president and chief economist at Axis Bank, India’s third largest privately owned bank, with assets over USD 85 bn. He was previously with Unilever in India, where he was responsible for business research and economic planning and developing analytical models predicting consumer behaviour, and with the Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC), where he played a significant role in rationalizing market structures for private sector participation in infrastructure. Mr Bhattacharya was a member of RBI’s high level group on of Monetary Policy Operating Procedure (2010) and the Finance Ministry Group on Estimating Foreign Savings (2011). Before that, in 2007, he was part of the Core Group which drafted the Percy Mistry Committee Report on Making Mumbai an International Financial Centre. He is a member of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Economic Affairs Council and co-chairman of CII Maharashtra State Council Policy Advocacy Committee.Mr Bhattacharya is a regular columnist for the Financial Express and writes regularly in various newspapers. In 2017, he was named a Chevening Standard Chartered Financial Services Fellow.
